The Ministry of Health has recalled the food supplement Leninerv 600 for the presence of titanium dioxide (E171), banned in Europe from 2022 due to its potential genotoxic effects
The Ministry of Health has announced the recall of a food supplement based on alpha-lipoic acid and B vitamins. A specific batch of product would in fact contain titanium dioxide (E171).
The product in question is the Leninerv 600, produced by the Grünenthal company. Specifically, the subject of the recall is the lot SG23001, with expiry date set for 01/2026sold in packs of 20 tablets.
Sigmar Italia Spa, manufacturer of the supplement for Grünenthal Italia Srl, is based in via Sombreno 11, in Almè, in the province of Bergamo. As a precaution, the company recommended not using the recalled product and returning it to the store where it was purchased.
As we read on the recall, the problem is precisely the presence of titanium dioxide (E171), a banned additive in food, supplements and feed in Europe as early as 2022. According to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), this substance is considered genotoxic, which means that it can damage genetic material and represents a potential risk to human health.
Titanium dioxide has been banned from foods and dietary supplements due to concerns about its safety, but it is still allowed in some hygiene products, such as toothpastes, and in medicines.
