From 6 to 12 October Rome celebrates its river with the seventh edition of the Tiber Day, an event that over the years has established itself as the most important appointment dedicated to the enhancement of the Tiber. The event involves hundreds of associations, sports federations, institutions and tens of thousands of citizens in a virtuous model of collective participation and active citizenship.
The 2025 event develops over 80 kilometers of river long, from Nazzano Farfa to Ostia and Fiumicino, and includes more than 140 events ranging from sport to culture, from musical shows to navigation, from environmental workshops to moments of study.

The initiative is created with the contribution of Roma Capitale through the Department of Culture, the Lazio Region, the Institute of Sports and Cultural Credit, in addition to the partnership of important realities such as Acea, Bulgari, Enel and Open Fiber. The Councilor for Agriculture, Environment and Waste Cycle Sabrina Alfonsi underlines how this edition takes on a particular meaning: “It takes place in the year that saw the opening of the five river parks of Ponte Milvio, Foro Italico, acetous water meadows, lengthy of ships and ancient host”. These spaces, recovered by the administration after years of abandonment and degradation, have been returned to the city such as new areas for leisure, sport and the rediscovery of the river ecosystem ..
Alessandro Onorato, councilor for major events, sports, tourism and fashion, recalls that the Rome’s assets extends well beyond the UNESCO site: “The Tiber is the element that unites the city and all the wealth, from the Circus Maximus to Ostia Antica”.
Six years of transformation
Six years after the first edition, the Tiber Day APS association can count on concrete results. As President Alberto Acciari explains: “Six years ago we asked for trust to bring the Tiber back to his ancient splendor. Today that trust has been repaid”. The view parks were made, the shores arranged, the clean walls. The crowning of this work came with the UNESCO recognition for the central part of the river in Rome.
The councilor for urban planning Maurizio Veloccia looks to the future: “The Tiber can and must become one of the main structures of the future of Rome”. With the Jubilee, 40 million euros were allocated for hydraulic safety and extraordinary maintenance. The Tiber’s strategic operational plan, approved in recent weeks, includes over nineteenth -century projects to reduce the distance between the city and its river.
Sustainable tourism and new navigation
Among the novelties of this edition stands out the experimental opening of a new stretch of tourist navigation north of the Nazzano Farfa regional park, called “in search of the Ase of the Tiber”. It is the first step towards a larger project of tourist use of the river in areas that far not valued so far.
Experimental initiatives such as Hop-on Hop-Off on the boat in Rome, the excursions to Fiumicino and the river trips offer the Tiber as a new waterway of the capital, in line with the large European capitals.
Active citizenship that makes the difference
The “We are the Tiber” campaign has accompanied citizens and neighborhoods to the event through cleaning initiatives, billboards, cultural events and participatory meetings. From this experience the “condominiums we are the Tibers” were born, groups of associations and citizens who participate in the maintenance of the locks. This shared administration model of the common goods will be relaunched during the week of the event, thanks to a work table promoted by the Department of the Environment.
Environment and education
The environment takes on a central role with “Lessons of the Environment”, an initiative developed by Tiber, joint venture between Tiber Day and Marevivo. From 9 to 12 October, in Nazzano-Farfa, Scalo de Pinedo and Ostia-Fiumicino, workshops on the reuse will be held, activities of Citizen Science, openings of parks and popular stands with Rome Natura, Port Authority and Guardia di Finanza. The Climate Pride collective will tell the fundamental role of activism in environmental protection.
A very topical theme will be the bathing Tiber, relaunched by the mayor Roberto Gualtieri as the future goal. The discussion is part of the vision for Rome 2050, which imagines three development lines: the ancient city, the ring road and the waterways.
A rich and varied program
The program includes exhibitions, guided tours, conferences and cultural installations, from the launch of the Tiber archive to Palazzo Valentini to the Luminis bright route on the walls. Sport will animate the parks with rowing open day, Padel tournaments, fitness masterclass and inclusive activities for people with disabilities and the elderly.
Among the most interesting events we point out the boat ride and urban rafting, aboard an inflatable boat on the Tiber, scheduled for Saturday 11 October, and the lessons of Tai Chi and Kung Fu for adults and children, always scheduled on the same day.
The Music Festival of the Municipalities will see bands, choirs and popular orchestras perform. Among the special appointments: the show “Righetto, Hero de Trastevere” by Roberto Ciufoli, the installation “Kisses Al Tiber” by Patrizia Pfenninger under Castel Sant’Angelo, the extraordinary opening of the archaeological sites of the Tiber Island and the jubilation walks.
The Tiber Day 2025 is confirmed as a commitment and participation party that looks to the future with a clear vision: to return the river to the city as a place of life, meeting and sustainable development.
