Look at the exciting rescue of a jaguar (wounded by poachers) while swimming desperate in the Rio Negro

In the Amazonia, a group of agents of the Brazilian military police made a rescue that moved the country. A jaguar wounded by gunshots was found while trying, exhausted, of crossing the Rio Negro, one of the main tributaries of the Amazon River. The animal, visibly disoriented and without strength, was identified by some passengers of a boat that immediately alerted the authorities.

Upon arrival on the spot, the team of the Environmental Batalhão found the jaguar in serious difficulties, clinging to a floating device. With the help of the secretariat for animal protection (Sepect) and a group of experts in wild fauna, the military managed to bring him to rescue after hours of intervention.

The wounds and the first care

Once rescued, the jaguar was transported to a manaus veterinary clinic, where doctors discovered the severity of the lesions. The exams have revealed more than thirty lead fragments stuck in the skull and in the neck, as well as fractured teeth and multiple wound wounds.

The animal, a male specimen of about two years, heavy 54 kilos and 1.78 meters long, was subjected to urgent surgery. Despite the critical initial conditions, the veterinarians have confirmed that it is now stable and out of danger of life.

The emotion on social networks and investigations

The video of the rescue, published online, became rapidly viral, arousing emotion and indignation. The images show the feline as it is dragged caution to the shore, supported by the rescuers, in a scene that many have defined symbolic of the fight against poaching in the Amazon region.

At the moment it is not yet clear who shot the jaguar. The authorities are investigating several hypotheses: illegal hunting act, animal abuse or self -defense by a local inhabitant. Unfortunately, in fact, hunting is still a widespread reality in the Amazon.

Towards freedom

After rehabilitation, the plan is to reintroduce the jaguar in its natural habitat, once its physical condition will allow it. Brazil hosts about half of the world population of jaguars and each rescue represents a fundamental step for the protection of this species symbol of Amazon biodiversity.
