Altroconsumo has also published the updated ranking of the Best Mobile Network Operators in Italythe result of the monitoring carried out via “Cheband”, a free app that allows you to analyze in real time the efficiency of your mobile network.
The tests, made by users between 1 January and 31 December 2024, made it possible to analyze the 4G and 5G services of the five main network operators, namely:
The results
With over 68 thousand points, Vodafone confirms the operator with the best mobile network quality in Italy. They follow a certain distance Tim with 41,772 points and Fastweb with 38,632 points. The latter, recently acquired by Swisscom together with Vodafone Italia, could further benefit from this merger to improve their performance.
In fourth and fifth position we find Windtre respectively (30,984 points) and Iliad (25,755 points).
The order of the ranking remains stable compared to last year also considering separately the 4G and 5G, with the only exception of Windtre which for the 5G clearly exceeds Iliad.
The growth of 5G in Italy
The 5G is gradually conquering users: in 2024 23% of chebanda tests were carried out with this technology, compared to 16% of 2023 and 8% in 2022.
The average 5G connection speed reached 139 Mbps in download and 20 Mbps in upload, recording an increase compared to 2023 data (119.8 Mbps in download and 14.1 Mbps in upload).
The 4G also showed improvements, with an average download speed that went from 48.3 to 52 Mbps and in upload from 9.8 to 12 Mbps.
Network tests are carried out
For the second consecutive year, Altroconsumo It monitored the 5 mobile network operators for the whole year 2024
The results presented in the report are based on the tests carried out in the reference period by 13,257 users of the chebanda app, who used a mobile sim of one of the five operators analyzed. Most users have chosen to perform a complete test of their network, thus allowing to collect detailed and representative data of actual services.
The reliability of the data collected with chebanda derives from an algorithm that takes into account variables such as the population density of the area where the test is carried out. For example, if a user carries out 10 tests in Milan and 5 in Pavia, the App will count only one average result for each city. In addition, the national final scores are weighted according to the population of the analyzed locations.
