The woman made very important discoveries about animals with her intelligence and dedication alone. Among other things, he demonstrated that chimpanzees not only built nests in trees to sleep in, but also used tools to obtain food, an ability that until then had been thought to be uniquely human.

These observations sparked a true revolution in the scientific world, opening doors in the understanding of animal behavior and our own evolutionary past that until then we didn’t even know existed.

But not only that: his discoveries, forever changing our view of chimpanzees, have also changed the scientific community’s beliefs on our relationships with the rest of living beings, breaking cultural as well as purely technical barriers.

It is no coincidence that, despite having no academic qualification, she nevertheless obtained a doctorate in ethology from theUniversity of Cambridgethanks to the support of his mentor, Louis Leakeywho had entrusted her with that research that no one had ever had the courage to undertake.

Last October 1st, at the age of 91, this wonderful woman passed away, leaving an enormous legacy, a burning fire that no one will ever be able to put out again.
