Two cases, two Giulias, one request: life imprisonment for the murders that shocked Italy on violence against women

Shared by the same name, Juliaand by two males who massacred them. On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women there is some relief for the families of those two girls who were murdered: Giulia Cecchettin by the hand of Filippo Turetta, e Giulia Tramontanoby the hand of Alessandro Impagnatiello.

For the first, for Filippo Turetta, in the indictment before the Assize Court of Venice the prosecutor asked for life imprisonment for multi-aggravated voluntary homicide, kidnapping and concealment of a corpse.

Giulia Cecchettin was young and full of dreams and was about to graduate in Biomedical Engineering. She was about to get there, but her ex took everything away from her. After attacking her, Filippo Turetta killed her with 75 stab wounds abandoning his body in a gully near Lake Barcìs and then getting back in the car and fleeing across the border.

With the death of Giulia Cecchettin, thanks also to her father Gino, we started talking more and more often about feminicides, but it’s still not enough.

The relationship between Giulia Cecchettin and the accused is characterized by strong pressure, by control over the offended party, acquaintances, friendships, outings. What happens on 11 December 2023 is the last of those acts of control – he said the PM. According to the reconstructions that emerged from the investigations, Turetta was not preparing to turn himself in: Turetta was not turning himself in but was “preparing to be arrested because he has run out of resources to escape and is doing so by erasing all traces, including those on his cell phone”.

In fact, the RIS also found signs of cleaning of the windows on his car.

After today’s indictment in which life imprisonment was requestedit will be the turn of the family’s lawyers, then on Tuesday the defense arguments with Turetta who should speak again. The ruling is expected on December 3.

Femicide of Giulia Tramontano (7 months pregnant)

The judges sentenced Impagnatiello to life imprisonment for the multi-aggravated murder, not recognizing mitigating circumstances and excluding only the aggravating circumstance of trivial reasons, maintaining those of premeditation, cruelty and the cohabitation relationship.

The Court also recognized the formal complicity between the murder and the other two charges of concealment of a corpse and non-consensual termination of pregnancy, applying 7 years of imprisonment in addition to the life sentence for the latter two crimes.
