Bryan Cranstonfamous for his role as Walter White in the famous television series breaking Badhe returned to play the iconic character for a new and original campaign environmental awareness. The campaign, called “Breaking Bad Habits”, was launched in the state of New Mexico for fight illegal waste disposal and promote awareness of the importance of proper waste management.
In the video, Walter White, known for being a dark and complex character, is portrayed in a context that recalls the desert atmosphere of breaking Bad. This time, however, his goal is not the production of illicit substances, but the fight against rubbish.
During the commercial, we see him collecting abandoned waste and declaring in a decisive tone: “Keep rubbish out of my territory”, a clear reference to one of his most memorable phrases from the series, adapted for environmental purposes. The video is directed by Vince Gilligan, the same director as breaking Badand immediately caught the public’s attention, going viral on social media.
The campaign includes several projects
The initiative is part of a larger project promoted by the governor of New Mexico, Michelle Lujan Grisham, who has allocated 3 million dollars to finance the campaign. In addition to television commercials, the project includes the installation of billboards and a series of clean-up activities organized across the Stateinvolving public schools, youth centers, state agencies and even prisoners.
The main aim is to educate the population on the devastating effects of waste abandonment on the environment and encourage active participation in land protection. The “Breaking Bad Habits” campaign was a great success, especially thanks to the involvement of Bryan Cranston, whose return as Walter White generated enormous media coverage.
The character is deeply rooted in the collective imagination, and its use in a public service campaign has allowed it to capture the attention of even those he is normally not interested in environmental issues. With this project, the authorities hope to significantly reduce illegal waste disposal and promote greater attention to sustainability, using the power of a television icon to convey a message of change for our planet.
