Every summer the freezer counter in supermarkets is enriched with new proposals: ice creams in original flavours, different formats and recipes that try to stand out from the timeless classics. This year Sammontana launched two new variants of the Cinque Stelle Deliziosa line: the cream and strawberry and cream and lemon cones.
Two combinations that recall the world of traditional ice cream and which focus on a simple idea: combining a creamy part with a fresher and fruitier component. We bought them and tasted them to understand what they really are like, what they contain, how much they weigh and whether the price is appropriate for the format.
The first thing that strikes you is precisely the size: the new cones are in fact smaller than the classic Five Stars, with a declared weight of 60 grams each (the package contains 6 pieces for a total of 360 grams).
Sammontana explained, responding to a user who complained on social media, that the 60 gram format was chosen specifically for the Deliziosa line, characterized by richer and more varied recipes, while the classic Five Star Cones (such as Cream, Cream and Croccantino) remain available in the standard 75 gram format.
What do the new Sammontana cones contain?
Looking at the label, the new Cinque Stelle Deliziosa Cones have a complex ingredient list, due to the presence of different components: cone, ice cream, fruit preparations and ingredients used to maintain the consistency and structure of the product.
In the Cream and Strawberry flavor we find rehydrated skimmed milk, sugar, wheat flour and glucose syrup as the first ingredients. The fruit part is given by the presence of strawberry puree (6.5%) and concentrated strawberry juice (5%), while the creamy component also includes butter and fresh pasteurized cream (2%).
There are also coconut oil, whole milk powder, cocoa butter, partially lactose-free skimmed whey powder, emulsifiers (including soy lecithins and mono- and diglycerides of fatty acids), stabilizers, gelling agents, natural flavors and plant concentrates also used for colour, such as beetroot, elderberry and safflower.
The Cream and Lemon variant instead has rehydrated skimmed milk, sugar, glucose syrup and wheat flour among the first ingredients. Contains concentrated lemon juice (3.5%), as well as butter, coconut oil, fresh pasteurized cream (1.5%) and egg yolk (0.8%), a typical ingredient of cream preparations.
Also in this case we find emulsifiers, stabilizers, gelling agents, natural flavors and other ingredients necessary for the creation of the product.
Regarding allergens, the Cream and Strawberry flavor may contain eggs, peanuts, tree nuts and mustard, while the Cream and Lemon flavor may contain peanuts, tree nuts and mustard.

What do the new Sammontana cones taste like?
We tasted them both and the first thing that emerges is that they are ice creams with a decidedly sweet taste, as expected from a packaged cone of this type. They are designed for those looking for a delicious and creamy dessert, rather than a light or low-sugar ice cream.
The Cream and Strawberry seemed the closest to the classic flavours: the cream part is the one that makes itself felt the most, while the strawberry adds a fruity note that makes the taste more lively. The wafer is crunchy and the final tip of the cone contains white chocolate.
The Cream and Lemon instead focuses on the contrast between the cream, sweeter and more intense, and the lemon, which gives a fresher sensation. It’s a flavor that’s perhaps a little less obvious than the first, but it’s still a very tasty cone, even if not everyone likes the acidity it leaves behind. Also in this case the wafer is crunchy and there is, surprisingly, white chocolate on the tip of the cone.
Overall they are very “summer snack” cones, rich, sweet and designed to satisfy the desire for a small dessert. A characteristic that seems to be appreciated by many consumers who have already tried them, even if the taste remains that typical of an industrial product, far from the quality and simplicity of a good artisanal ice cream.
How much do they cost and where to find them
We purchased the pack of 6 pieces at the price of 5.49 euros, but the cost may vary depending on the supermarket. In some cases it is also possible to find it on offer, with promotional prices around 3.99 euros.
The full price corresponds to approximately 0.92 euros per cone. Considering the declared weight of 360 grams per pack (60 grams each cone), the cost is equivalent to approximately 15.25 euros per kilo.
As for availability, it is not always easy to find them, try Conad Superstore or Carrefour, but the presence in supermarkets can vary depending on the store and the area.
