What is this story that Perugia kisses have become round

If we think of the Kisses Perugina comes to mind, in addition to the cartouche that contains the iconic love phrases, their classic pointed shape, with the whole hazelnut that stands in the center. For some time, however, a round kiss seems to have appeared! What is it about?

We tell you immediately: it is not a replacement of the well -known chocolate, but a variant that joins the traditional one. With the pearls – this is the name – Perugina has expanded (in reality for some time) the range of its most famous product, offering two stuffed pralines, designed to be enjoyed at any time.

How they are done

The pearls are perfectly spherical and enclose the classic gianduia cream enriched with hazelnut grains. The outside of the chocolate is decorated with strips or stars motifs, depending on the version. There are in fact two:

The dark version follows the historical recipe of Luisa Spagnoli, a tribute to the founder who in 1922 created a chocolate based on cocoa waste and hazelnut grains, initially called “punch”, then Giovanni Buitoni, administrator of the company, suggested a decidedly sweeter and more suitable name. So kisses were born.

These are the ingredients of the dark chocolate variant:

These are the ingredients of the milk pearls:

In both cases, the ingredients are very similar – if not practically identical – to those of the classic Perugina kisses.

The pearls are found in supermarkets, both physical and online, in the 154 GE pack the recommended price is 5.29 euros.

But why the round kisses?

If you are wondering why Perugina has decided to launch a round kiss, the reply is more articulated than what one might think. The new format allows you to widen the target of consumers, aiming for young people, families or those who want a sweet, free from the romantic image of traditional kisses.

It is also a way to renew the brand, stimulating curiosity and sales without touching the classic version of the chocolate, and to exploit new possibilities of decorations and packaging, more modern and captivating, suitable for sharing and digital markets.
