Not just kibbles, wet food and biscuits. Dogs eat anything, ingesting valuable and non-valuable objects, even the most unlikely ones. While some are crazy about handkerchiefs, others munch on remote controls, chargers and various devices.
This was confessed by the owners of over 2000 American dogs, who took part in a survey on the eating habits of their four-legged friend and about what definitely doesn’t belong in their diet, but was part of it.
The investigation was conducted by Talker Research in September 2024 with quite a few surprises. The analysis of the responses revealed that 59% of dog owners fear not realizing what ends up in Fido’s mouth despite worrying about his health.
It seems clear that the concern is more than legitimate, especially if the dog ingests it really dangerous objects and foods. Among these there is chocolate, responsible for symptoms of intoxication with greater risks the higher the percentage of cocoa.
But chocolate, known to be a poison for dogs, is not among the strangest and most unthinkable things that the dogs involved in this research. The survey revealed that man’s best friends have tried to eat it plaster on the walls, a box of tampons, dentures, a sweater.
The greediest ones brushed off packs of biscuits and a stick of butter. Some, with more refined tastes so to speak, have disappeared lottery tickets, social security cards, wallets, banknotes to the delight of their families.
It is said that health begins at the table and this must be the case for pets too, distinguishing between suitable foods and inedible products and objects. Everything that could be chewed and ingested by our dog within the four walls must not be within his reach because the consequences are not to be joked about.
The importance of a healthy diet should not be underestimated, to which the objects or sweets mentioned here do not belong.
