Robinia pseudoacacia) and elderberry (Sambucus nigra

Intendiamoci, l’estrazione domestica è un’impresa affascinante ma complessa. Natural aromatic molecules are volatile and difficult to fix: nothing like commercial perfumes with armored and persistent formulas. Let’s think about vanilla: leaving the berries to macerate in 95° alcohol makes an excellent tincture for desserts or for the body, but once on the skin it will quickly evaporate with body heat. Lo stesso accadrà con questo estratto di fiori freschi. Sarà un piacere fugace, una carezza leggera, ma vi assicuro che ne vale assolutamente la pena.

The secret to getting started? Experiment without haste, on small quantities, without being discouraged if some unexpected event or slight fermentation occurs on the first attempt. It’s all a matter of practice.

Depending on the quantity of flowers you have, choose two glass jars that contain them all well compressed in equal parts and fill them leaving as little space as possible, in this way the fragrance will be more concentrated.

Once the necessary time has passed, in the jar with the alcohol the flowers will be completely dehydrated and colorless because the color and scent will have passed to the alcohol. Now filter the liquid and squeeze the flowers inside a sheet of tissue paper in order to recover all the liquid possible: you will have obtained a tincture of fresh flowers.

A questo punto, potete utilizzare il vasetto della tintura di fiori per unire i due preparati: la tintura e l’oleolito insieme. Naturally they cannot be mixed, but close your container hermetically and after having mixed the mixture vigorously, let it rest for at least a week in the dark, stirring every now and then.

After a week, take your jar and move the liquid as little as possible, aspirate the alcohol that will float on the oil with the Pasteur pipette or the syringe without needle, being very careful not to aspirate the latter. In this liquid, which you will pour into the small container with a dropper, the scent of your flowers will be concentrated and a few drops on the warm skin will immediately bring spring to mind. You can try adding a few drops of glycerin to this alcoholic extract of fresh flowers, in order to make it less volatile and more persistent on the skin, but from personal experience, it will not remain for long. It will be a fleeting pleasure.
