Is about to arrive “Livia”the photovoltaic project that will rise in the area of a former quarry.
A nice example of environmental redevelopment for a site that is no longer exploitable for extractive purposes.
The challenge of the recovery of the quarries
The environmental recovery of abandoned quarries is a complex challenge that requires targeted interventions to restore the balance of the territory. When an area is carved for years, the landscape is upset, leaving huge empty and impoverished lands, difficult to reintegrate into the natural environment.
Water can also become a problem: the quarries can alter the level of the aquifers or create stagnant basins, which risk transforming into degraded areas. The Carrara marble quarries are a sad example.
Livia
A virtuous example is instead represented by Pieve Albignolain the province of Pavia, where a new photovoltaic system will rise with an installed power of 3,48 MW. The project is called “Livia” and the Municipality was authorizedApril 11thallowing the recovery of a disused quarry that will be completely restored from an environmental point of view and will become a symbol of the energy transition.
Evil incentives and rates
The work is made possible thanks to Fer1 incentiveseconomic concessions introduced by Fer1 decreewhich entered into force in 2019, to support the production of electricity from renewable sources.
The plant will be built by the company Sunflowwho had submitted application to participate in the procedure Auctions and registers In July 2019 for the“Incentive of electricity produced by onshore wind farms, photovoltaic solar, hydroelectric and residual gas of purification processes”. Following the checks conducted by Energy Services Manager (GSE)the project was included in the ranking with a twenty -year incentive rate of 76.61 €/MWH.
Clean energy for citizens
Once operating, the photovoltaic system can provide Clean electricity to about 11,000 homes per yearavoiding the issue of About 7,103 tons of CO2 per year and contributing to the national energy transition.
