Photovoltaic: here is the residential compressed air battery that guarantees 48 hours of autonomy

A battery is coming with a compressed air storage system, which guarantees greater autonomy and represents an alternative to lithium batteries.

One of the main challenges for achieving the energy transition is represented by domestic accumulations. There are increasing technologies capable of storing the energy produced in excess by domestic systems fueled by renewable sources, in order to be able to use it at night in the case of photovoltaics or in the absence of wind in the case of the fifteen.

The patent

From France comes a patented process which, through a system of compression and isothermal decompression of the air, is able to store large quantities of energy for domestic use.

Is called Remora Home And it is the technological innovation developed by the French engineering group Follow Technologies. It is a system as large as a water heater: a reversible compressor to be connected, for example, to the solar panels, which converts the energy produced in excess in compressed air. This is then stored in a system of dedicated cylinders.

The energy produced in excess in optimal conditions is used to power the compressor. This takes air from the environment and compresses it, storing it in high pressure cylinders. When the system does not produce energy, the compressed air is released by the tanks. By expanding, the air operates the generator that produces electricity, ready to be used at home.

Energy stability and intelligent consumption

When energy production is not enough, the compressed air is released and converted into electricity, ensuring continuous energy autonomy.

The system can be managed by users through an app and also allows the user to intelligently optimize the consumption of his home. The solution, in fact, provides suggestions to encourage autonomy and self -consumption, but it can also, if necessary, control household appliances based on renewable production and available energy stocks.

A robust solution and low carbon emissions

The manufacturer guarantees a total efficiency of 70% and a duration of at least 30 years. The system is made with materials such as steel and aluminum, durable and easily recyclable, thus resulting much more sustainable than traditional batteries.

The test phases of this compressed air system have already shown good performance, suitable for guaranteeing continuity of energy to private homes. The market launch is scheduled for 2028.
