From 25 May to 22 June, OperaCamion starts again, the initiative of the Rome Opera Theater which transforms a truck into a mobile theater. This year he brings to Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville” on stage directly in the squares of the Roman municipalities.
A theater on wheels
The container opens like a curtain by revealing a complete stage of orchestra, singers, lights and customs. The formula remains the proven one: free shows that reach the neighborhoods of the capital, from the centers to the suburbs.
The project involves nine municipalities with as many representations. It starts on Sunday 25 May in Spinaceto to end on June 22nd. A new production for other municipalities is expected in autumn.
Culture for everyone
Operacamion represents a model of cultural democratization that breaks down the economic and geographical barriers traditionally associated with opera. Free admission and the choice to reach the neighborhoods directly – from the central areas to the suburbs – guarantees access to an art form often perceived as elitist.
The project favors social inclusion by transforming daily urban spaces into cultural meeting places. The squares, parking lots and spaces in front of the churches become temporary theaters where residents of all ages can approach the work without having to face costs or travel to the city center.
Production
The “barber” is presented in a streamlined but complete version with the Opera di Roma orchestra directed by Carlo Donadio. The direction of Manu Lalli, who also signs customs and lights, is inspired by the world of circus and the comedy of art.
For the first time all the artistic forces of the Foundation participate, including young interpreters of the “Fabbrica” Young Artist Program program.
