Emma Marrone was only 25 years old when a gynecological examination, made almost as a game, has radically changed the course of her life. The singer, today 41 years old, told his path with the stage of the Manzoni Theater in Milan, during the Ieo meeting for women, dedicated to listening to oncological patients.
He had no symptoms, he felt well. But it was enough to look worried about the doctor to start a series of exams that proved crucial: the ovary tumor was, silent and aggressive. The moment of the diagnosis has not shocked only her, but also and above all who was next to her:
My problem was to save my parents before I save myself, I saw my mother and father age 100 years suddenly, destroy and fall into a thousand pieces. So my plan was to save my parents before I even save myself.
The situation was serious, so much so that he hypothesizes an underground at an age in which life should still begin. The intervention was long, but Emma has chosen to cling to everything that gave her energy, transforming fear into constructive anger.
“I’m not that disease”
Emma wanted to underline how the disease never defined it:
Then I started my life perhaps, a strange life, my career also began absurdly. It was as if my head had stranger from the body, I was not that cancer but a young girl who wanted to make a career, sing, become famous, and I wanted to live.
Even when, after years, the tumor has returned to the door several times, she has never completely transferred.
He was an important guest to eradicate and I thought he was closed there, instead he tortured me for 10 years, this cursed. Every time I had to do something cool, but the attitude has always been that, I am not that disease. There has been so much fear of not doing it, not to have the strength, but anger has always prompted me to say: you can’t win you.
The message to women: to control yourself save life
The real point of Emma’s story is prevention. Getting to an audience of over 1500 women, the singer launched a clear appeal:
I had no symptoms, but it does not always mean being well. Remove like socks and make controls because sometimes, yes, there are no symptoms.
A powerful invitation, which echoes much beyond the walls of a theater: making a check can really save your life. And you don’t have to wait for the first symptoms because it could already be too late: prevention is fundamental.
