Cell

Immersed among the splendid hills of Upper Lazio, perched on a spur of tuff, Celleno is considered among the most beautiful and fascinating in Italy by the Telegraph magazine. The village has undergone a slow depopulation from the nineteenth century, until it became desert in the 1950s.

The first official festival dedicated to the “Cerasa” dates back to 1962 and after the limitations related to the pandemic, next weekend returns with its “summer carnival”, the product this year seems to be of excellent quality and quantity and will try to honor its excellent curriculum (recognition by the Arsial of 11 local native varieties, recognition by the Ministry of Agricultural and Forestry Policies of the PAT Brand Traditional, insertion of cell cherry among the 35 products that represented the Lazio Region at Expo 2015).

The desire to start again is perceived by a cheerful work, in particular that of the masked groups, and by the inevitable involvement of the whole community. A beautiful tradition that is renewed thanks to the commitment of many people starting with the new Proloco and producers, the Celleno Cherry Consortium (Celleno production area, Roccalvecce, S. Angelo), the municipal administration and all the volunteers who do their best in a thousand ways for the success of the event, leaves the mayor Marco Bianchi.

Celleno cherries

This ancient tradition that celebrates Celleno’s bond with cherry, of which traces are also found in the statute of 1457, is also a way to get closer to the earth, to the rhythms of nature, to the peasant world of the past, to a way of life that needs respect for the environment.
