How do I plant a fishing core in the correct way?

Before starting, keep in mind that the first step is the most “risky” one, because you could wait in vain. Greenme’s advice, in fact, is to start doing sprout More than one seed at a time, so that you may have a good chance that at least one starts to sprout correctly. If it goes well and you have enough space, you can even plant two!

The autumn period is perfect for starting to plant the peach. For some, the simplest method is also the most feasible: it digs a small hole of at least two centimeters of depth, put the peach core, cover with the soil, water and then place hay (or any other type of mulch to protect from the cold) and wait for nature to take its course. Usually, the peque begins to sprout in spring, like many other plants.

But if you want a more controlled solution, you can use this simple trick. Keep your hazelnuts until December, January. After that, you will induce the seed to sprout using the cold of your fridge. The steps to follow are:

  1. Immerse the hazel in water for 1-2 hours
  2. Insert the core in a plastic bag you can close
  3. In the insert of the wet soil
  4. Retains at a temperature around -6 degrees away from other fruit
  5. When you see that the first shoots are leaving the core, plant it in a pot or in the garden

As promised, it is really simple and will help you start your personal orchard, or to curl your little green treasure in the garden.

Some growers prefer to remove the external part of the core to expose the seed to water and soil, but this step is not necessary and you can simply follow the instructions you find above.

Choose the right core: varieties and useful advice

Not all fishing hazelnuts are the same and, to increase the chances of success, it is important to know where the fruit comes from. Local and biological varieties are preferred to the hybrid ones or industrially treated, because they maintain greater vitality and adaptability to the climate. Ideally, you should choose a core coming from a mature fishing in your same area: this will guarantee better resistance to environmental conditions and greater compatibility with the soil. If you can, avoid the fruits purchased at the supermarket, which often derive from grafted plants and do not faithfully reproduce the characteristics of the mother plant. A small initial precaution that can make the difference in the future growth of the tree.
