In the province of Mantua 25 thousand chicks died alive in the flames (while in two other farms the torture continue)

A dense cloud of black smoke, visible even at a long distance. Thus a breeding of chickens went on flames in the countryside of Castellaro Lastello (Monzambano), in the province of Mantua.

The fire would flare up from the area where the incubator of the chicks was located and the consequences were devastating: Dead 25 thousand chicks.

Over 630 million animals raised in Italy every year, were born with the only function of being slaughtered, therefore killed violently. The lives, and the dead, of the animals therefore simply become a number to be counted – declares Lorenza Bianchi, manager of the Food Transition Area Lav. The damage caused by the accident is compensated by the “salvation” of the other animals that remained alive in the breeding, which have escaped the flames.

For the animals escaped on fire, in fact, it cannot be said there is “salvation“. Even the” saved “animals, in fact, will be slaughtered in a few weeks: 4 or 5 at most because that is the age when a” meat “chicken is sent to the slaughterhouse.

Another terrible news always comes from the province of Mantua, from Castel Goffredo, where an duck breeder was reported for mistreatment: in particular for having cut the beak to the animals without having followed the provisions of the law and thus inflicting further suffering to those who already undergo the animals every day in the farms.

To the mistreatment is added the fact that thebreeder had 21 thousand animals with him instead of 18 thousand. Even if the breeder had made a cutting of the beak in accordance with the norm, a usual practice carried out to prevent the ducks from hurting each other, it is indecent and cruel to think that animals can spend a life worthy in these conditions of overcrowding.

Questioning the system of farms, intensive and not, and trying to change it is the first step towards a world where animals and human can have equal dignity – they conclude by the Lav. The process is long and tortuous but each of us can help put an end to this daily suffering already with small choices.
