“The most beautiful sea” over 300 Italian coastal municipalities, with a section dedicated also to the most beautiful lakes, By rewarding with maximum recognition, the five sails, the municipalities that have been able to better combine the quality of the services offered to the tourist with courageous and innovative choices in the sign of environmental sustainability.
Among these also 103 Common friends of the sea turtles committed to carrying out concrete actions such as the manual cleaning of the beaches, limitations of light pollution, training of bathing managers, collaboration with scientific representatives for monitoring and protection of the nests.
The parameters for the assignment of sails
The sails – from 1 (minimum score) to 5 (maximum score) – are the banner assigned to the most deserving municipalities through the data collected by Legambiente. A symbol that testifies not only the purity of the waters but in general the environmental quality and the services offered.
The evaluation of the locations is based on different parameters: use of soil, degradation of the landscape, biodiversity, tourist activities, state of coastal areas, mobility, water and purification, energy, waste, initiatives for sustainability, food safety and typical quality productions.

This year there are 30 seaside resorts with five sails, 20 of the sea and 10 of lakes.
