Glyphosate alarm: the highest levels of South America were found in this river

Discovered the highest concentration of glyphosate in South America in one of the waterways that flows into the most important river in Argentina.

The alarm is launched by the biologist Rafael Lajmanovich who, together with a group of Argentine scientists, has been studying the impact of agro -industry on waterways for years.

Well, now from their analysis – whose results have been published in Water Environment Research – a shock data emerged: 5002 µg/kg in the sediment.

The study

In the SEATION OF THE LAS CONHAS TURANtributary of the Paraná in the province of Entre Ríos, were detected 5002 micrograms per kilo of glyphosate: a record concentration, never reported first in the continent. This was known by the scientific team during the VIII International Socio -Trade Health Congress, held in Rosario from 10 to 12 June.

All these waterways result in Paraná, the most important river in Argentina. The results are alarming, said Lajmanovich.

The group analyzed four streams:

Las Conchas, Espinillo, Crespo and Las Tunas. In particular, conditions of extreme toxicity:

The research includes chemical, microbiological analyzes and ecotoxicological tests, also near the exhausts of the dairy industry, and also showed High concentrations of ammonium, pesticides, heavy metals and veterinary antibioticslike ivemectin.

It is a production system that accumulates toxic substances in the sediments. Serve a more severe regulation and more sustainable agricultural practicesreiterated the biologist.

The researchers ask for urgent interventions for:

A clear request, supported by science, which now awaits answers from the institutions.
