This ecoresort in Ogliastra contains a garden of wonders, where you can walk barefoot, while the weather stops

The contrast between aridity and enchantment

Sardinia knows how to be harsh and generous at the same time. Here, in the heart of the Ogliastra, where the sun carves stone landscapes and oleandri stoically resist the heat, a secret garden is hidden that challenges all expectations. The Eco Resort that hosted us, the Arbatax Park Hotel is immersed in that typically Mediterranean nature, where beauty manifests itself in its most authentic and wild essence, between shrubs that smell of myrtle and expanses that speak of ancient resilience.

Beyond the magic door

Door of the Garden of Wonders

Just cross a small inlaid wooden door to discover that miracles really exist. It is as if Alice, on her famous journey, had left a passage between the worlds open, allowing the magic to filter in reality. By passing that ancient wooden threshold, decorated with wise craft skill, we find ourselves catapulted into a parallel universe where nature has turned into a supreme artist.

Garden of Wonders

In the kingdom of the janas

Garden of Wonders (2)

The Garden of Wonders opens before the eyes as a revelation. Here, in the kingdom of the janas – those benefits of the Sardinian tradition that weave destinies and keep secrets – every corner tells a different story. The vegetation, which shortly before appeared austere and measured, explodes in a symphony of colors and perfumes that caress the soul even before the senses. Even before words the images speak. A well -kept lawn, flower beds and flowers, benches and strings, leaving their booklles and which at a certain point also enlarges the whiteness.

Experience is a caress for sight, touch and soul

Walking barefoot on these paths becomes a ritual of passage, a return to the origins that awakens lost connections with Mother Earth. The soft grass under the bare feet whispers ancient secrets, while the intense perfume of the flowers creates an almost hypnotic atmosphere. The vivid colors that follow one another along the way create a natural kaleidoscope that changes at every step, at every breath.

The magic of silence: a path to be done alone

Garden of Wonders

Silence here is not absence, but full presence. It is the silence that amplifies the chirping of the birds, the rustle of the dancing leaves in the wind, the beating of butterflies that seem to be in miniature. Among these natural sounds move fireflies that transform the garden into a twilight into a theater of dancing lights.

A multisensory path

This multisensory path is not only an aesthetic experience, but a real spiritual journey. Among his paths, an outdoor library is discovered where words mix with the scent of flowers, the spaces dedicated to yoga invite to a meditation that finds in the beauty surrounding its most perfect ally. The olive grocery transforms exercise into a harmonious dialogue with secular trees that have seen generations of Sardinians pass.

And then there is the Casa delle Janaswhere Sardinian mythology takes tangible form, where folklore is intertwined with reality by creating a magical atmosphere that touches the heart of anyone who crosses that threshold. Here, between flowers that seem paintings and butterflies that dance tirelessly, it is understood that the real luxury is not in opulence, but in the ability to create beauty that speaks directly to the soul.

The return to reality

Leaving the garden of wonders means bringing with it a piece of that magic, the awareness that beauty can really transform, that a garden can be much more than a simple green space. It is an invitation to rediscover the wonder that is hiding behind each door, even the smallest and apparently insignificant one, provided that you have the courage to go beyond it.

Angela Scanu Mazzella’s vision

The garden of wonders was born from the tenacious and passionate dream of Angela Scanu Mazzella, wife of the owner of the Arbatax Park Resort. It was his vision that gave life to this corner of paradise, wanting to create a space where nature could express itself in its purest and more engaging form. Angela has been able to transform an idea actually concrete, imagining a place that could touch the soul of visitors through a complete and transformative sensory experience.

Ecoresort and its philosophy

The garden is perfectly part of the philosophy of the Arbatax Park Resort, awarded as “Best Eco Resort in the world” from 2019 to 2024. This international recognition testifies to how the structure, unique in the world to be located within a naturalistic park, has been able to combine excellence in reception and respect for the environment. The resort, which extends over 60 hectares in the Ogliastra – one of the five blue world areas – houses 500,000 plants and 500 Sardinian native animals.

This is the only resort in the world located inside a naturalistic park and is located in Sardinia
