These are the best European stations of 2025: find out where you travel better by train

Who would have said that Poland would make the dust eat in Paris and London? The Wrocław Główny station ranks second in the European railway index 2025, leaving experts in the sector openly. But let’s go in order.

Zurich confirms the summit

The undisputed queen remains Zurich Hauptbahnhof, which retains the throne with 101 points out of 100 (yes, they exceeded the maximum, typical of the Swiss). Every year over 100 million passengers pass through here that can enjoy shops open late, restaurants for all tastes and – miracle of miracles – trains that arrive on time in 99% of cases. If you have ever waited for an Italian regional in the rain, you will understand why this figure makes tears come to the eyes.

Second and third place

The real surprise comes from Poland. The Wrocław Główny station, with 98.5 points, shows that Eastern Europe has made great strides. The station offers modern services, excellent integration with urban transport and competition between operators that keeps low prices and high quality. Not bad for a city that many Italians would struggle to pronounce correctly.

Bern slips to third place with 94.5 points, while remaining a real jewel of Swiss efficiency.

The best 10

In fourth place we find Berlin Hauptbahnhof who recovers ten positions thanks to reduced waiting times and the opening of new restaurants. Because you know, waiting for the train with the empty stomach makes everything more dramatic.

The top ten is completed with London Paddington (fifth), Utrecht central (sixth), London Bridge (seventh), Central Vienna and Montparnasse races that appeared in eighth place, and Amsterdam Centraal which closes the list of the magnificent ten.

How did Italy go?

Roma Termini

For those who were asking him, Roma Termini in the general classification is in 11th place, but in the superstition ranking he defends himself well: third best among the super-stations with over 100 million passengers per year. A result that makes us breathe a sigh of relief.

Napoli Centrale station is in 28th place with a score of 73 points. It should be noted that the numbers of passengers of Napoli Centrale decreased from 59.2 million to 50 million, even if this discrepancy could be due to a change in the detection methodology.

Milano Centrale ranks 37th and Rome Tiburtina in 39th place with a score of 60 points, Turin Porta Nuova at the 41st, Florence Santa Maria Novella at 42 ° and Bologna in the 53rd.

Bad Germany

But let’s talk about the German disaster, because each ranking has its own last in the class. Germany occupies 13 of the last 25 positions and holds 4 of the last 5 seats. The Berlin Gesundbrunnen station touches the bottom with just 47 points. Berlin Ostkreuz and Dortmund complete this podium on the contrary: for example, pressure the Dortmund station The passengers are waiting for an average 15 minutes and 53 seconds before leaving, an eternity if we think that a few minutes are enough in Switzerland.

Since 2022, only 62% of German trains arrive on time. Deutsche Bahn has launched a general renovation program which however accumulates budget delays and laying. A bit like when we decide to redo the bathroom and after six months we still live between dust and tiles.

The rest of Europe

France also has its grains. The gare de Lyon collapsed from the fifth to twenty -sixth place in just one year, with the waiting times that stretched outdated and passengers began to take the packed lunch. Spain lived its black moment with a blackout in April that paralyzed the railway network, while the United Kingdom has nationalized several companies in an attempt to put order in post-Brexit chaos.

These rankings have been created considering various factors, including types of tickets, services in the station, accessibility, free Wi-Fi, railway coverage and ride-sharing services. The index is based on relations of national authorities, online statistics, stations maps, real -time updates and proper research. The data on the volumes of passengers reflect the latest information available in August 2025.

The parameters of the evaluation

The Consumer Choice Center, which has drawn up this ranking, evaluates concrete elements: passenger volumes, ticket offices, punctuality, accessibility for the disabled, presence of shops and restaurants, free Wi-Fi, apps for smartphones and connections with local transport. Objective criteria that photograph the daily reality of millions of travelers.

Moral? If you have to take a train in Europe, focus on Switzerland or give a chance to Poland. Avoid Germany if you can, at least until they arrange their problems. And if you travel from Roma Termini, console yourself: you may find you worse.
