Scientists for a day with the only help of the smartphone. The race arrives in Rome to recognize the living species of the Tiber.
What is a bioblitz?
Bioblitz, a “naturalistic marathon” and an event of Citizen Science in which citizens, citizens, scientists and scientists collaborate on the banks of the river of the capital to identify the living species of the Tiber.
The challenge is launched by the seedscience association, in collaboration with G.Eco, and is part of the Science Week program, which opens the European night of researchers and researchers Leaf 2025, organized by Frascati Scienza.
With National Geographic experts
This is the first home River Bioblitz in the history of Rome, during which not only will it be possible to explore the historical river of the Eternal City, but also to meet the 10 National Geographic Explorer and scientific experts who will guide citizens in observation, teaching techniques of recognition of the species and methodologies of photographic documentation.
The event is financed by National Geographic and is part of the Home River Bioblitz, a global initiative that sees citizens from all over the world gathering on the penultimate weekend of September to carry out collective research along rivers or fresh water mirrors.
What is Citizen Science?
There Citizen Scienceor “citizens’ science”, is an activity in which the non -expert public also participates in scientific projects, as in this case in the collection and cataloging of data to generate new knowledge.
It is a fun way to strengthen the relationship between science and civil society, promoting a scientific culture that stimulates curiosity and develops critical thinking.

Participants will have to download the free inaturalist app on their smartphone. Thanks to this application not only will it be possible to recognize any photographed living being, but the images will also enter an international database that helps researchers from all over the world to monitor our planet’s biodiversity.
The view park
The Acetosa Practice Practice Park is larger than the five river views made by Roma Capitale thanks to the jubilation funding. According to the Capitoline administration, it is the largest river linear park in Europe. This event gives citizens and citizens the opportunity to rediscover the nature of an area recently redeveloped and help to monitor local biodiversity.
