Landslides, flooding and blackout scourged northern Italy: it is alert for the flooding of the Seveso

Once again it is an emergency in Northern Italy, with critical situations in Lombardy, Liguria and Piedmont. The torrential rains have in fact caused landslides, flooding and evacuations, while in the province of Alexandria a woman is dispersed. In different areas, schools have been closed and local authorities recommend the utmost prudence in traveling.

Milan under siege: the Seveso floods

The Seveso river returned to excess in Milan, breaking the banks in particular in the Niguarda district and in the area of Prato Centenaro, with flooding that blocked roads, underpaid and provoked blackout. The containment tanks of Milan and Senago, already activated in the early hours of the morning, were unable to hold the exceptional amount of water that fell in a few hours. Roads and underpasses have turned into rivers, cars trapped in the water and blackout aggravated the situation. A school was evacuated and the firefighters exceeded one hundred interventions in the city.

Landslides and flooding in Lombardy

The rest of Lombardy has also been hit. In the province of Como there were flooding and landslides, in particular on the SP 583 “Lariana” and on the state road 340 “Queen”, both closed temporarily due to the presence of debris. The historic center of Como found itself submerged, with squares and main streets transformed into waterways and the San Giovanni railway station unusable for mud and debris.

There are also many difficulties in the province of Varese, where expulsion streams and streams have made some roads impractical. A landslide in Villaggio Montelago, in the municipality of Brusimpiano, caused the closure of the State road of Porto Ceresio, while in Lavena Ponte Tresa there are critical issues in via Hungary and in the neighboring roads due to the flooding of a stream.

Liguria in emergency

Liguria has also experienced difficult hours, especially in the Savonese and Val Bormida, where the Bormida river was exhausted at dawn. Exceptional rainfall has touched peaks of over 400 millimeters in a few hours, causing landslides and interruptions to the road network. The schools remained closed in almost the whole region, with the exception of Imperia.

Discomforts in Piedmont and Tuscany: a woman dispersed in Monferrato

In the Alexandrine, self -regenerating thunderstorms have flooded entire valleys and isolated some communities. In Spigno Monferrato a woman is dispersed, while fifteen people were stuck in a campsite due to a landslide. Meanwhile, the flood of the Bormida river worries the entire area. In Tuscany, the yellow alert concerned Lunigiana, Garfagnana and Versilia, where the landslides and closed roads are reported.

Unfortunately these phenomena have become almost a constant at the end of summer. With the climate crisis that rages, the script is always the same: violent storms alternating with long periods of drought that transform September into a month marked by floods and emergencies.
