For tomorrow, a 24 -hour national strike is scheduled for Friday 26 September which will involve the staff of the air and air sector. The protest, called by the Cub Transport union, aims to obtain better work conditions, recognition of backward contractual rights and wage increases, as well as expressing solidarity with the Palestinian population.
The strikes of Wizz Air Malta and Volotea will also be able to join the strike, while the staff of the land assistance companies associated with Assohandlers will strike for four hours, from 10 to 14, including those who deal with luggage management, fuel supplies and boarding assistance.
Guaranteed time slots and protected flights
Despite the mobilization, protected hourly bands are provided established by law: from 7 to 10 in the morning and from 18 to 21. During these intervals, flights must be carried out regularly. ENAC, the National Authority for Civil Aviation, has also drawn up a list of guaranteed flights, including:
The rights of passengers in case of cancellations and delays
In the case of cancellations or prolonged delays, passengers have the right to assistance, such as meals, drinks, hotel accommodation and transfers, according to the provisions of the EC regulation 261/2004. Airlines must also offer the choice between: reimbursement of the ticket, return to the airport of departure or boarding on another flight towards the final destination as soon as possible, or on a later date. Those who have to start during the strike are invited to check the flight hours on the company or ENAC website, arrive at the airport well in advance and download any digital documents to facilitate check-in.
