At 65, Martine Barons was crowned the “stronger grandmother than Great Britain“, Conquering four world records in powerlifting. It all started almost for fun, just a year and a half ago, and in no time she managed to transform a pastime into a surprising sports career.

A talent discovered by chance
It was December 2023 when Martine, residing in Stratford-Upon-Avon and academic researcher at the University of Warwick, accompanied a friend in the gym. During that first session she was shown to her how to perform a Deadlift and with her own surprise she managed to raise 60 kilos without difficulty. A few weeks later it had already reached 100 kilos: an obvious sign of an out of the ordinary natural force.
Training and discipline
Since then, Martine’s life has changed. He started training Constance five times a week for two hours a day, managing to reconcile full -time work with his new passion. In just 18 months he participated in numerous competitions, winning the European title in Finland and defending him the following year in Poland, and then triumphs also to the World Cup in Ireland and the United States.
World records and medals
During the races, Martine rewritten the rankings of its category, establishing new records in the squat with 100 kilos, in the Deadlift with 155 kilos and in the flat bench with 57.5 kilos. Overall, it has scored 312.5 kilos, setting a new absolute record in powerlifting. Her last victory saw her dominate in 2025 at the World Cup in Idaho, imposing itself in the Masters 5, Raw, U90kg division.
Martine says he has never been particularly brought for sport and having lived much of life away from competitions. For this, the successes achieved have an even more special flavor for her:
It seems incredible to me to discover a sports talent at this age. Every now and then I have to give me a pinch to convince me that it really happened.
The next challenge will be in March 2026, when he will participate in the British Single Lifts Championship during the Arnold Sports Festival in Birmingham. A new opportunity to show that it is never too late to get involved and rewrite your destiny.
