Friday 7 November promises to be a complicated day for those traveling by public transport or on the motorway. The national strike will involve various sectors, with inevitable inconvenience for commuters and travellers.
In Latina, local public transport will stop several times during the day from the start of service at 6.30am from 9.30am to 1.30pm and from 4.30pm to the end of service, while in Milan, Monza and Brianza the ATM group will be affected by a protest called by AL Cobas.
Even in Palermo, where Amat workers will fold their arms for most of the day from 8.30 to 17.30 and from 20.30 to 23.59, and in Messina, where ATM Messina employees will stop in the afternoon from 16.01 to 20.00, the service will be significantly reduced.
The reasons for the strike
The reasons for the strike are multiple: the unions are protesting against the liberalization and privatization of the services currently managed by the ATM group, they ask for the re-internalisation of contracted out services, the transformation of ATM into a special company of the Municipality of Milan and the direct in-house assignment of local public transport services. They also contest the inaction of the management in matters of safety, ask for the transition from part-time to full-time contracts for those who request it and a fixed salary increase of 150 euros net, not linked to productivity, as compensation for the lack of contract renewals and the limited increases received in recent years.
Even highways
The strike will also be felt on the motorway. The staff of the 2nd Milan section of Autostrade per l’Italia have announced a multi-shift protest, with possible consequences on toll booths, maintenance services and network management. The affected area covers a large part of Lombardy – between Milan, Bergamo, Como, Brescia, Varese and Lodi – and extends up to the connections to Piacenza and Parma.
In short, November 7th will be a Friday of passion for those who travel: it is advisable to organize yourself in advance and check the warranty bands of the vehicles before setting off.
