For the holidays, Disney returns to tell Christmas through a language that goes beyond entertainment: that of imagination. With the new short film Best Christmas Everdirected by Oscar-winning director Taika Waititi and available on Disney+, the public is accompanied in a story that combines poetry, naivety and a pinch of wonder.
At the center is a little girl who, on Christmas morning, sees her drawing come to life thanks to a misunderstanding by Santa Claus. From that simple pencil stroke, Doodle was born, a sweet and bizarre creature dubbed by the unmistakable voice of John Goodman, symbol of the invisible bridge between childhood fantasy and authentic affection.
A short film that rediscovers the art of animation
Waititi, with the support of legendary animator Eric Goldberg, recovers the more artisanal tradition of Disney shorts and fuses it with a contemporary sensibility. The work does not focus on special effects, but on the evocative power of a story built on drawings, emotions and a narrative rhythm that puts delicacy back at the centre.
Best Christmas Ever It thus becomes a universal story, capable of speaking to children but also to adults who have not stopped believing in their dreams. It is a sincere narrative, which echoes the theme dear to Waititi: the power of the imagination as refuge, shelter and encounter.
More than just a Christmas launch, Best Christmas Ever it is an invitation to recover the childhood wonder. Disney, for almost a century, has managed to transform imagination into a common language. And this time too the message is clear: holidays are not just decorations and gifts, but small gestures of care that become memories. The short film celebrates that magic that does not only belong to films but to the way we choose to be together, to give and to still believe in the drawings that come to life.
Solidarity initiatives for Christmas
Around the short film, Disney builds a wide-ranging campaign, Make Someone’s Holiday Magic, which brings the Christmas spirit directly to communities. The traditional Holiday Magic Tour will pass through more than twenty cities around the world, bringing gifts to children in hospitals, activities in schools and social initiatives in collaboration with charities.
The company also renews its historic support of Toys for Tots, with toy drives and special days in Disney stores. At the same time, the magic of the holidays will expand across the group’s parks, resorts and television networks, transforming Christmas into a shared ritual that unites families, volunteers and visitors.
