Ornella Vanoni has left us, surprising us all: a talented, bold, free artist who was never afraid to express her thoughts and experiment leaves the scene. The singer, who gave us unforgettable songs such as “L’avventura”, “Senza Fine” and “Tomorrow is another day”, passed away at the age of 91 in her home in Milan, following an illness.
Talent and self-irony of an unrepeatable artist
“Death is near, it’s easy for me to think about it. I’m practically 91 years old, I don’t want to die too old, but I want to live as long as I give life something and life has something to give me” she confided some time ago during an interview given to the Verissimo show, demonstrating great wisdom (often hidden behind a veneer of healthy lightness) and breaking the taboo on death.
His iconic phrase “I don’t know if I’ll get to Christmas” had become a sort of mantra, reported on social media, mugs and t-shirts. And this time Ornella didn’t really make it to Christmas, leaving us a little sadder and alone.
Among those most shocked by his passing was the host Fabio Fazio, with whom Ornella Vanoni loved to converse in the living room of the program “Che tempo che fa”. “I’m not able to say anything. I’m speechless and I wasn’t ready for all this. It doesn’t seem possible to me. I can’t say anything at all” commented Fazio, entrusting his pain and disbelief to social media.
Italy says goodbye not only to an extraordinary and multifaceted artist, but an authentic woman who has always remained true to herself and taught us the importance of not taking ourselves too seriously. We will miss your vibrant voice and overwhelming irony. Have a nice trip, Ornella.
