The decision of Disney to invest a billion dollars in OpenAI marks the beginning of a new phase for digital entertainment. The three-year deal grants the AI company the use of over 200 iconic charactersa creative asset that can be used to generate original content via the video platform Sora. This is the first time a major studio has granted its own intellectual property to a large-scale automatic generation system.

Characters such as Mickey Mouse, Iron Man, Darth Vader, Elsa, Groot and many other figures from the Disney, Marvel, Pixar and Star Wars universes will be available for user-generated creations. The agreement also includes the use of iconic vehicles, settings and objectswhile the use of the faces and voices of real actors remains excluded.
