Creating a cozy Christmas atmosphere without a real fireplace is possible thanks to a creative solution: building a fake one using recycled cardboard boxes! In addition to being an original Christmas decoration for the home, it can also be used as a backdrop for Christmas-themed school plays. Kids will love it.
What is needed and how to prepare the fake fireplace
To get started, you need to gather similar sized sturdy boxes to build the base of the fireplace. Strengthening the boxes with additional pieces of cardboard will ensure greater stability to the structure.
Once you have created a solid structure, you can add other decorations, such as Nativity scene figurines. The various pieces can be assembled with adhesive tape. Before proceeding with further decorations, cover it with wrapping paper. You can also opt to cut out bricks from red or brown cardstock for a more realistic effect.
Don’t forget the fireplace backdrop. This can be created with Christmas wrapping paper depicting, for example, a starry sky, similar to that of nativity scenes. If the cardboard fireplace is sufficiently sturdy, it is possible to hang Befana stockings, filling them with sweets and small gifts, just as you would with a real fireplace.
