As the UAI explains, the Geminids (also called Geminids) will be active from 4 to 20 December with a maximum expected on the night between the 13th and 14th of the month. The swarm is among the most beautiful of the yearas it generally reaches a frequency – under a perfectly clear and dark sky – between 120 and 150 meteors/hperfectly comparable to that of the Perseids in August.

Unlike most meteor showers, which are generated by the debris of comets, the Geminids however, they are linked to 3200 Phaethonan anomalously behaving rocky body, which is thought to be a ancient cometary nucleus now exhausted.

The radiant, or the point from which the meteors appear to depart, is located in the constellation of Gemini from which they take their name, and is located in great location all nightculminating after midnight (on the map the sky on December 14th at approximately 1.00 am).

The shooting stars of this shower are slow, very bright and often colourful, with persistent trails that cross the sky in a spectacular way
