The number of Italian billionaires continues to increase and, with it, the overall value of their fortunes. According to the latest Forbes update, at the end of 2025 Italy will have 79 super rich people, five more than in the previous spring survey. The most impressive data, however, concerns the total assets, which reached 357.2 billion dollars, marking a decisive leap compared to previous months. A clear sign of how wealth is increasingly concentrated in the hands of a few major economic players.
Ferrero remains the richest in Italy
Giovanni Ferrero, number one of the confectionery group of the same name, confirms himself at the top of the ranking. His estimated assets exceed $41 billion, thanks to a particularly good year for the company, which saw record revenues and important strategic transactions. Immediately behind is Andrea Pignataro, founder of the Ion group, which continues to grow while maintaining a very reserved profile. Giancarlo Devasini completes the podium, linked to the world of cryptocurrencies and in particular to Tether, a reality often at the center of media and financial attention.
Movements in the top ten and new balances
The ranking shows several changes in the top positions. Francesco Gaetano Caltagirone, a protagonist of Italian finance and involved in important banking operations, rose to fourth place. Immediately after is Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, while the richest woman in Italy remains Massimiliana Landini Aleotti, at the helm of the Menarini pharmaceutical group. Also noteworthy is the compact presence of Leonardo Del Vecchio’s heirs, who share one of the central positions in the ranking thanks to the global weight of EssilorLuxottica.
Why the number of Italian billionaires is increasing
The increase in the overall number of billionaires is largely due to hereditary successions and the redistribution of large family assets. The passing away of historic entrepreneurial figures has led several heirs to surpass the billion mark. Added to this are new entries, such as that of entrepreneurs active in the energy, infrastructure, space and artificial intelligence sectors, areas that are increasingly central to global investments. The picture that emerges tells of an Italy with fewer “traditional” rich people and more and more protagonists linked to finance and innovation.
