Drugged by her husband and raped for 13 years: the new Pelicot case that shakes the United Kingdom

He drugged his wife for 13 years to get her raped. And now, in court, he will have to answer for 56 sexual crimes. He is a former English conservative politician and the shadow of what already happened to Gisèle Pelicot in France is as present as ever.

History, in short, seems to repeat itself. This time in the UK. According to the news reported by British newspapers quoting the police of the county of Wiltshire, in the south-west of England, five of six men involved, between 31 and 61 years old, are accused of rape and the victim’s ex-husband indicted for 56 sexual crimes.

What happened

The man is not only accused of direct abuse, but also of having given drugs to his ex-wife and of having forced her to have sexual relations with other men. He is also charged with voyeurism and possession of child pornography.

The investigations revealed that the violence against the 48-year-old occurred over a very long period of time, between 2010 and 2023. The ex-husband is currently in precautionary custody, while the other five suspects were released with restrictive measures. They will all have to appear before Swindon Crown Court for the first hearing.

A brutal story, which closely recalls the French case of Gisèle Pelicot, who for about ten years suffered sexual violence and chemical submission by her husband and numerous other men. A judicial proceeding that ended with several convictions, including a 20-year prison sentence imposed on Dominique Pelicot himself.

Furthermore, just a few days ago, a similar episode also emerged in Germany, where a 61-year-old man was convicted of having drugged, raped and filmed his wife for years.
