Foreign bodies in pandoros produced in Brianza: there could be more than 10 thousand sweets seized and withdrawn from supermarkets

An official inspection has raised the alarm about food safety for one of the desserts symbolizing the holidays. In a factory in the province of Monza and Brianza, which produces confectionery products intended for large-scale distribution, foreign bodies were identified inside the pandori, resulting in their seizure and the start of recall procedures.

The intervention was carried out on 31 December 2025 by inspectors of the Food Safety Structure of ATS Brianza. But let’s try to better understand what happened.

Fragments of plastic in the pandoros

During the inspection, the technicians found a serious hygienic-sanitary non-compliance. The investigations carried out on site made it possible to identify the cause in the incorrect use of baking molds unsuitable for industrial production.

During the cooking phase, these molds fell apart, releasing very small fragments of plastic which remained adhering to the finished product, posing a potential risk to consumer safety. However, no metallic elements were detected.

In light of what they discovered, the inspectors ordered the evidentiary seizure of the products involved and forwarded the news of the crime to the judicial authorities. Sanctioning procedures have also been initiated against the food sector operator for failure to identify and manage the danger, as required by current legislation.

The production of pandori was immediately suspended.

The precautionary recall

In parallel with the seizure, procedures were activated to recall the pandoros already placed on the market, with the involvement of the competent authorities at regional and ministerial level to guarantee traceability and rapid intervention.

According to estimates reported by local journalistic sources, the products potentially involved could be over 10 thousand, distributed through large-scale retail trade and therefore destined for different areas of Italy. At the moment, however, an official figure has not been made public by Ats Brianza and the name of the brand (or brands) under which the pandori were marketed is not known.

The company has already informed its customers, while the authorities are verifying the actual effectiveness of the withdrawal.

At the conclusion of the speech, the general director of Ats Brianza, Paola Palmieri, declared:

Episodes like this confirm the value of official controls as a fundamental safeguard for primary prevention and protection of public health, to guarantee consumer safety and the correctness of the food system.
