Everyone sings… Soltero: what it means and who is the author of the song that conquered social media (unexpectedly)

There are those who have gotten into their heads in an almost obsessive way and those who lie. In the last few days on TikTok or Spotify, you will surely have heard it. “Soltero” is the song of the moment, at the top of the “Viral 50 Italia” playlist on Spotify and used by thousands of online users in stories and reels. “Instagram made me discover the best thing to end the year” someone writes.

And it’s not a catchphrase constructed on the spot: the song actually came out at the end of 2024, but since last December it has practically exploded thanks to spontaneous sharing on social media. “Soltero”, with its irresistible and vibrant melody and video clip without special effects, has also won over singers such as Sarah Toscano, Tedua and Alfa.

Who is the author of the catchphrase

Behind the sensational and unexpected success of “Soltero” there is Leonardo De Andreis, a young Italian artist born in 2001, originally from Pomezia. De Andreis is not a complete stranger: in 2018 he was a finalist in Sanremo Young, the talent show for emerging voices, during which he told of his passion for music that began when he was only 8 years old thanks to Michael Jackson. “Singing is my life” said the artist, who lives with a motor disability which, however, did not hinder him from following his great dream.

The meaning of the song

But what do you mean by solero? The Spanish word stands for “single”, but in the song it takes on a more complex and profound meaning. Being “lonely” means preferring to live well, renouncing those toxic, false relationships that cage you or are polluted by betrayals. In the song Leonardo de Andreis talks about the disappointment caused by certain relationships and the feeling of never having received sincere affection and the disillusionment towards the “fairy tale of eternal love”.

“Soltero” therefore becomes a sort of hymn, which reminds us how important it is to protect one’s happiness, opting to remain alone instead of continuing to cultivate unhealthy relationships. Many appreciated this simple but powerful and liberating message, but above all the pace that is practically impossible to resist.

The text and the video clip

I fell madly in love with you
Not knowing that I would run into disappointment
And to this day I still don’t know why
I tried to cage myself in a relationship
I stopped believing a long time ago
To the fairy tale of eternal love
And this winter too I say clearly
And happily mine
My personal opinion
The relationships are nothing real
Never received sincere affection
At this point I remain alone
I heard a thousand words
Empty speeches without a concrete purpose
Never received sincere affection
At this point I remain alone, alone
Always liked helping others
Don’t ask me to make friends, I think it’s a bit fictitious
May it always hide a bit of cunning
The first fruits of a toxic and ruthless malice
I live a life of hardship
With inconveniences and various torments
But between asociality and apathy
Harmony, I have my say
My personal opinion
The relationships are nothing real
Never received sincere affection
At this point I remain alone
I heard a thousand words
Empty speeches without a concrete purpose
Never received sincere affection
At this point I remain Soltero, Soltero
No one ever told me: “I miss you, my friend”
Without an ulterior motive, very fine logic
I’m not very fond of violinists
All ephemeral coaxing that never finds an end
I only look ahead
And if you ask me about spicy experiences
I don’t eat spicy food (what are you talking about?)
My personal opinion
The relationships are nothing real
Never received sincere affection
At this point I remain alone
I heard a thousand words
Empty speeches without a concrete purpose
Never received sincere affection
At this point I remain alone, alone, oh
