Orange alert in Rome: all parks and cemeteries in the city closed, all events cancelled

The weather alert goes from yellow to orange: new restrictive measures for January 6th

The intense rainfall that continues to affect Rome and the entire Lazio have led the Capitoline Administration to strengthen safety measures. The meteorological warning, raised from yellow to orange, made more stringent measures necessary to protect the population.

The Mayor’s provision

After ordering the closure of the Tiber quays in the urban section and activating the Aniene shipping plan, Mayor Roberto Gualtieri issued Ordinance no. 2 of 5 January 2026. The provision establishes for 6 January, and until the end of the alert, the limitation of recreational and sporting activities in public areas open to the public exposed to meteoric phenomena.

Specific prohibitions

The union ordinance, aimed at protecting public safety, prohibits non-competitive recreational and sporting aggregative activities on public areas or areas open to the public exposed to meteoric events. Access, transit and circulation in green areas, gardens, parks and historic villas is also prohibited. The measure also prohibits the carrying out of any previously authorized activity in areas under suspended loads, under the canopy of trees and within the radius of their potential fall. The Capitoline cemeteries remain closed to the public, except for urgent obligations relating to funeral services and mortuary police activities.

Recommendations for citizens

The Administration invites citizens not to expose themselves to risks and to adopt self-protection behaviours. Outside, it is essential to stay away from underpasses, river banks, ditches, canals and areas subject to flooding, seeking elevated and sheltered positions but avoiding trees and hanging loads. It is recommended not to cross or stop in green areas and tree-lined streets due to the risk of breaking branches or falling trees, and to avoid coastal and coastal areas, not stopping on piers and piers.

Those who stay at home should avoid basements and limit their stay on balconies. On the road it is necessary to pay maximum attention when driving vehicles, especially if they are curtained, caravans and motor vehicles, stopping in case of gusts of wind that could cause skidding. The main objective is to remain in sheltered positions to avoid being hit by any falling objects or materials.
