The hidden clues according to fans
Social media has turned into a collective archive of supposedly cryptic messages. Among the most cited, the letters from the Dungeons & Dragons manuals placed in Mike’s basement, which would form an ambiguous sentence, or the arrangement of the students during the graduation ceremony, similar to that of Henry Creel. There is no shortage of chromatic details, such as props that change colour, and the obsessive recurrence of the number 7, which has always been central to the narrative of Stranger Things. A Hellfire Club t-shirt worn by Dustin was also reinterpreted as a hidden message in favor of Eleven’s survival.

Because the theory doesn’t hold up
As fascinating as it is, the Conformity Gate shows more of the fans’ need to not let go of the series than an actual narrative strategy. From a production point of view, the idea of a secret episode seems unlikely: Netflix and the Duffers have officially said goodbye to the series, closing the chapter of the Upside Down. Furthermore, many of the clues cited can be read as simple visual coincidences, the result of an exasperated search for hidden meanings.
The real return: the documentary
Stranger Things he will return anyway, but in another form.
