Zerocalcare, the first trailer for the new animated series “Due spicci” has been released: when it arrives on Netflix and what it’s about

Netflix has released the first trailer for Two penniesthe new animated series created by Zerocalcare, aka Michele Rech. The release is scheduled for May, although the platform has not yet communicated a precise date. This is the Roman author’s third animated project since Tear along the edges And This world won’t make me badtwo titles that consolidated his personal and recognizable style even outside the world of comics.

The trailer is short but dense: Rome is the backdrop to a chaotic race through traffic, with Zero at the wheel and the inevitable Armadillo on the next seat. In fact, Valerio Mastandrea returns to lend his voice to the character who embodies the ironic and often ruthless conscience of the protagonist. The tone is immediately familiar: daily neuroses, sense of guilt and that constant tension between responsibility and immobility that runs through Zerocalcare’s entire production.

The new series seems to revolve around a moment of transition. Zero is late for an appointment with Sarah, and the delay becomes a metaphor for something broader: growing up also means dealing with bonds that can no longer stand on their own.

In the teaser, while the two communicate via voice messages, Armadillo tries to suggest less and less credible justifications: “Tell him you’re looking for parking, that you have to do it well“. Under pressure from Sarah, who insists with “I’m leaving if you don’t come“, the suggested answer becomes even more surreal: “Tell him: I’m here I don’t see you“. The reply is not long in coming: “You’re kidding me, this place is 20 meters away. it’s not that if we can we’ll lose“.

A bigger story: some previews of the plot

In addition to the teaser scene, some plot details emerge: Zero and his friend Boar find themselves managing a small place, amidst economic problems, misunderstandings and personal lives that become complicated. The return of a figure from the past and new responsibilities contribute to putting pressure on an already fragile balance. Zerocalcare explained that the series reflects on an age in which friendship stops being automatic and becomes something to be cared for, with all the difficulties that this entails.

Two pennies fits coherently into the author’s journey, maintaining the visual and narrative style that the public knows, but shifting the gaze to a less told phase of life. Without proclamations or forced turns, the series promises to once again observe the present, with irony and restlessness, starting from an apparently banal situation.
