The crossing is part of the “Dust – La via della Sabbia” project, conceived by Baron himself, which aims to document the natural path of Saharan dust that crosses the Atlantic to nourish the Amazon. The adventure, in addition to its sporting and technical value, also has a scientific and environmental significance, telling the story of the link between Africa and South America through an extreme and conscious journey.

Between 2020 and 2021 Barone crossed the pole of the Siberian cold in the harshest months and reached the northernmost road on the planet. These often solitary experiences honed his ability to adapt and manage extreme conditions, preparing him for challenges such as rowing across the Atlantic.
