February is shaping up to be a complex month for travellers. Public transport, trains, planes and ports will be affected by a long series of strikes which, in the space of 28 days, will cause workers to stop at least 18 times. A sequence of unrest that involves both the national and local levels, with inevitable repercussions on commuters and occasional travellers.
The first stop: trains and railway contracts
The first critical date is today, Monday 2 February, when Trenord stops in Lombardy. The strike, proclaimed by the Orsa union, will last from the early hours of the morning until the following night, with possible cancellations and delays, while respecting the guarantee bands. Inconveniences are also expected in Lazio for railway contract workers, while in Rimini the abstention of Trenitalia maintenance staff could reduce the number of available trains.
February 6th between ports and local transport
Friday 6 February represents one of the most delicate moments of the entire month. A national strike in the maritime and port sector is planned, which will involve activities in Italian ports for the entire day. In parallel, several local public transport services stop, with protests in Abruzzo, Bari and Teramo. A day that risks putting both logistics and urban mobility in difficulty.
Air travel stops on the 16th
The third Monday of the month, February 16, is the turn of air transport. The workers of Ita Airways and the flight attendants of Vueling will cross their arms, as well as the ground staff at Linate and Malpensa airports. While the guarantee bands and essential connections remain active, delays and cancellations are expected, especially on national and European flights.
State Railways: 27 and 28 February
The end of the month is entrusted to a strike with a strong impact. From the evening of Friday 27th until Saturday 28th February, the train and on-board staff of the State Railways will stop for 24 hours. Regional, Frecce and Intercity trains are at risk, with possible changes also on the protected Saturday slots.
A map of local unrest
Alongside national protests, February is dotted with local strikes: Como, Bolzano, Termoli, Udine and again Bari will see buses, trams or local railways stop on several days. A mosaic of unrest that makes the month one of the most difficult for mobility in recent years.
