Goodbye beautiful and unfortunate whale: the cetacean spotted in recent days in the port of Naples did not make it

Goodbye to the whale spotted a few days ago in the Gulf of Naples: this morning, February 28, the cetacean was found dead. We had hoped that the animal would be able to swim free in the open sea again but unfortunately this was not the case.

Last February 23rd, in the waters of Beverello Pier to Naplesa whale at least eight meters long had been sighted. The cetacean had swum until it touched the docks from which fast vehicles depart for the islands of the Gulf, attracting the attention of dozens of people.

For a few hours the large marine mammal had remained in the body of water in front of the Angevin malealternating dives and resurfacings, immediately appeared disoriented in a context dominated by naval traffic.

The maritime authority had ordered the temporary blocking of departing and arriving hydrofoils, and the routes had been diverted to avoid interference with the animal. The vehicles then intervened on site Coast Guardto closely monitor its movements with the aim of ensuring the safety of both the animal and the boats. The area remained under constant observation for hours, with citizens invited not to approach or disturb the operations.

But most likely the animal still suffered trauma in the attempt to leave the Port basin

Unfortunately, this morning the fin whale was found dead not far from the port – we read today 28 February on the Facebook page of the Punta Campanella Marine Protected Area – It will now be very important to understand the causes of the death of the specimen which had immediately appeared thin and disoriented

Goodbye unfortunate whale.
