The panorama of sustainability and the circular economy in Italy records an exceptional result in 2025, thanks to the work of Erion Packaging. The Consortium, part of the Erion System and dedicated to the management of packaging waste from technological products, announced record figures, demonstrating impressive growth and a concrete commitment towards a greener future. With over 30,000 tons of recycled packaging, Erion Packaging confirms itself as a key player in our country’s ecological transition.
A year of record numbers and constant growth
The data released by Erion Packaging speak clearly: during 2025, the Consortium collected the remarkable figure of over 36,000 tons of waste throughout the national territory. This represents an increase of +46% compared to 2024, when approximately 25,000 tonnes were collected. Even more significant is the data relating to recycling: the quantity of recycled packaging waste went from approximately 23,000 tonnes in 2024 to over 30,000 tonnes in 2025, with an increase of +32% compared to the previous year. These results are evidence of exponential growth, with the volumes managed by the Consortium having more than tripled since 2023.
Beyond the legal objectives: a virtuous example of efficiency
The effectiveness of Erion Packaging’s work is further underlined by the exceeding of all the legal objectives set for 2025. The Consortium has achieved an overall recycling figure equal to 76.5% of the total released for consumption by its Consortium members, significantly exceeding the legal objective of 65%. But the successes do not stop here, extending to individual sectors:
The recipe for success: partnerships and extensive network
But how was it possible to achieve these ambitious goals? Erion Packaging’s success is based on a targeted strategy and continuous strengthening. The Consortium has consolidated its partnerships with recycling operators and has significantly expanded its network of agreements. This has made it possible to involve a growing number of companies – including production plants, logistics operators, distributors and installers – capable of generating significant volumes of packaging waste falling within the Consortium’s competence. The growth of the consortium has seen the entry of 33 new companies in 2025, leading to an increase in quantities released for consumption of 37% and reaching approximately 40,000 tonnes.
Going into detail, the correct waste treatment has made it possible to recycle:
Erion Packaging’s strategic role in extended producer responsibility
As Andrea Bizzi, General Director of Erion Packaging, points out:
We have demonstrated, as an Autonomous System, that we can satisfy all regulatory requirements and we have been able to implement a System capable of managing the packaging under our responsibility in an excellent manner from an environmental point of view, sustainable from an economic point of view, and optimized on the basis of the needs of our Consortium members and the production, logistics and distribution chains of technological products. Achieving these results in just three years of activity represents an important signal for the entire market of these products.
Bizzi continues by highlighting the objective of further strengthening Erion Packaging’s role in the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) chain, positioning itself as a reliable interlocutor to simplify regulatory compliance, improve the overall efficiency of the system and generate value for Producers.
Towards the future: the PPWR challenge and innovation in packaging
The Consortium is already looking towards future challenges, in particular in view of the application of the new European Packaging Regulation (PPWR), scheduled to start from 12 August 2026. This regulation will introduce more stringent requirements in terms of packaging design, which will have to be increasingly recyclable, reusable and with reduced environmental impact. Erion Packaging will be called upon to play an even more strategic role in the management of packaging linked to technological supply chains, guaranteeing efficient, traceable and measurable waste flows throughout the entire life cycle of the products. Furthermore, the Regulation will strengthen the involvement of producers in the life cycle of packaging, making efficient waste management a central pillar.
Conclusion: Erion Packaging, a model for the circular economy
The 2025 results confirm Erion Packaging as a model of excellence in the management of packaging waste from technological products. Its ability to exceed legal objectives, constant growth and proactive approach to new European regulations make it a point of reference for the Italian circular economy. The Consortium’s commitment to an increasingly efficient collection and recycling system, combined with its strategic vision, is fundamental to guiding the sector towards more sustainable practices and to concretely contribute to the protection of our environment.
