The Autonomous Province of Bolzano is accelerating its efforts on schools and putting on the table a measure destined to change the balance of the sector: an average increase of 400 euros gross per month for teachers and staff working at schools. The proposal, approved by the provincial council, aims to strengthen the role of teaching and make the profession more competitive in a context where recruitment and motivation have become central themes. The intervention concerns approximately 14 thousand workers including teachers, educators and school collaborators who work in Alto Adige, with the aim of enhancing the entire sector.
An investment of 110 million per year
The plan is part of a broader strategy which provides 110 million euros per year for the three-year period 2026-2028. The resources will be allocated mainly to increasing salaries and reducing salary differences between state and provincial school staff. The increase is also in addition to the inflation adjustments already introduced previously, strengthening the overall impact of the measure. The declared objective is to transform teaching into a more attractive and stable career, especially for young people approaching the profession.
No increase in workload
One of the key elements of the proposal concerns the absence of changes to the timetable. The economic increase, according to the council, will not lead to additional hours or an increase in the workload. The measure is presented as an economic recognition of the educational role and extra activities carried out by school staff. The plan also aims to rebalance the different linguistic components of the local school system, strengthening cohesion between the various educational realities of the province. The reform also aims to contain the salary differences between new hires and experienced teachers, maintaining a more sustainable balance.
Towards an agreement with the unions
The proposal comes after a long discussion with the trade unions and could mark the end of the tug of war that had also led to the school trip strike. The approved guidelines represent the basis for the final negotiation, with the aim of quickly reaching the signature of the new agreement. The administration hopes that, with economic recognition, we will return to full participation in extracurricular activities and strengthen the stability of the system.
