The scene was captured in a video shared on social media by Vito Rago and subsequently relaunched by the mayor of Mola di Bari, Giuseppe Colonna, who wanted to underline the human value of that moment.
It happened precisely in Mola di Bari, where an operator from the urban hygiene company interrupted his work shift after noticing the small bird on the ground, motionless and vulnerable. Instead of ignoring him, he got out of the vehicle, gently picked him up and tried to help him get up. A moment later, that tiny, fragile body started moving its wings again and returned to the sky.
The mayor’s post and the message behind that gesture
In his message published online, the mayor said how much that seemingly ordinary scene affected him. He spoke of a swallow”immobile and fragile”, but above all of a person who chose to stop and pay attention to a creature that many would probably have ignored.
