A column of black smoke, dense and impenetrable, pierced the darkness of the night in the Salerno area, remaining visible from kilometers away for hours. Shortly after midnight, a violent fire devastated the Termoplast factory, a well-known company located in the heart of the industrial area of Via Ingegno in Sarno. In just a few moments the fire engulfed the structure, a company specialized in the processing of plastic materials and the production of food containers, transforming the area into a real hell and triggering immediate apprehension among the residents of the entire area.
The gigantic fire and the deployment of relief workers from all over the region
The fire attacked an industrial warehouse of approximately 5,000 square metres, quickly spreading due to the highly flammable storage and processing materials present inside the structure. The combustion of plastic derivatives generated extremely aggressive flames, forcing first responders to undertake a complex and risky containment effort.
Given the vastness of the scenario and the real danger of the fire spreading to adjacent companies, the operations room had to request immediate support from the neighboring commands. To lend support to the local groups, fire brigade teams from Naples, Caserta and Avellino urgently converged. In total, the massive contingent coordinated on site saw the use of around 40 men and 10 special vehicles in the field, including aerial ladders and tankers.
The invitation to close doors and windows
While the red helmets and volunteers of the Il Saro Civil Protection worked tirelessly to contain the latest outbreaks and start clean-up operations, the municipal administration of Sarno issued an urgent precautionary notice to protect public health. The Municipality invited citizens to close doors and windows, recommending that residents of the areas affected by the transit of the black cloud drastically limit outdoor activities.
The authorities also cordoned off the emergency area so as not to impede emergency vehicles. Fortunately, the official reports from the police confirm that no injuries have been reported at the moment. In the next few hours, the competent technicians will start sampling to evaluate the quality of the air and the geometric measurements necessary to ascertain the causes that triggered the fire.
