Puppy dog ​​”adopted” by a pack of wolves in Greece: see the images of the rare case that amazes experts

In the heart of Central Macedonia, a region of northern Greece, nature is staging an almost unique ethological show. A male stray dog ​​puppy, characterized by a thick, completely white coat and an estimated age of around four months, has been officially welcomed and protected by a pack of wild wolves.

This extraordinary family unit does not simply tolerate the presence of the small servant, but has included him to all intents and purposes in its social dynamics of survival. The discovery was documented and disseminated thanks to the field work of Theodoros Kominos, biologist and doctoral student at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, who coordinates the monitoring activities of the territory.

The videos of the treatment: food and water for the little guest

Scientific monitoring, conducted through the use of professional drones, has recorded behaviors that undermine old beliefs about the rigid hostility between domestic and wild canids. In one of the most significant videos, the alpha wolf (the reproductive female of the group) is observed patiently guiding the cub for over 450 meters, leading it from the shelter to an artificial waterhole created by the irrigation of the fields.

Shortly after, the dominant male wolf traveled almost half a kilometer to transport two large calf bones taken from an agricultural carcass disposal area, depositing them directly in front of the little dog to allow him to feed. The scientific team’s analyzes highlight a swollen belly and an excellent general state of health, clear signs of constant nutrition.

The complex social structure of the pack

Experts from the organization Canis Project in Greece (also known as the Golden Jackal Canis aureus and Wolf Canis lupus research group) have been monitoring this specific herd for about a year. This is one of the most complex and “multigenerational” family structures ever recorded in the area: it is made up of the main breeding pair, six wolf cubs born in the spring of 2026 (about two months old) and various young specimens born in previous years.

The little white dog spends his days actively playing with the wolf cubs and fearlessly interacting with the adults of the group. The dynamic appears even more surprising if you consider that the exact same pack, last winter, had attempted to look after another black puppy dog, who unfortunately did not survive due to the cold temperatures and pouring rain.

The ecological paradox between charm and conservation

If on the one hand the episode fascinates public opinion, on the other scientists raise legitimate questions related to the conservation of the species. Wolves and dogs share more than 99% of their genetic makeup despite an evolutionary separation that occurred tens of thousands of years ago. As a rule, wolves tend to defend their territory by killing stray dogs; the area in question has in fact recorded fatal clashes between wolves and adult dogs in the past months.

However, the very young age of the white puppy has eliminated the competitive instinct of adults, activating instead a rare nurturing mechanism. The real long-term risk remains genetic hybridization, a phenomenon recently ascertained in northern Greece by the Callisto organization, which through DNA testing on 50 specimens identified a hybrid individual near Thessaloniki. The massive presence of strays alters ecosystems and multiplies these close contacts, leaving open the ending of a story yet to be written.
