Today, Sunday 12 July, Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev face each other in the final of the Wimbledon tournament in London. It is the final act of the most prestigious Slam in tennis, the one that awards the title on the green lawn of Center Court.
For Sinner it is the second consecutive final in the London tournament: last year he won it against Carlos Alcaraz, while this year he got there by eliminating Novak Djokovic in the semi-final with a clear triple 6-4. For Zverev, however, it is the first final of his career at Wimbledon, the only Slam in which before this edition he had never gone beyond the round of 16.
Time and where to see it
The final is played on Center Court and begins no earlier than 5pm Italian time, as per the now consolidated tradition for the last act of the tournament. First, still on the central court, the women’s doubles final is scheduled, from 2.00 pm.
The match will be broadcast live on Sky Sport Uno, Sky Sport Tennis and Sky Sport 4K, with live streaming on Sky Go and NOW. As already happened in the semi-final, the match will also be visible free-to-air on TV8 (channel 8 of digital terrestrial), with streaming available on tv8.it.
What’s at stake
For Sinner, world number 1, this final represents the opportunity for a double that only very few champions have managed in the recent history of tennis: winning Wimbledon for two consecutive years. For Zverev it would instead be the second Slam title in his career, and the second in a row after the triumph at Roland Garros.
Regardless of the result of the final, there is already one certainty in the ATP rankings: from Monday Zverev will be the new world number 2, overtaking Carlos Alcaraz, who has been out of action for months with a wrist injury.
The path to the final
Sinner went through the tournament without major worries after a complicated debut: he eliminated the Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic in the fifth set, and then never lost a set again in the following rounds, against opponents such as Brooksby, Mochizuki and Struff. In the semifinal he beat Novak Djokovic with a triple 6-4, granting only one break point in the entire match.
Zverev’s path was also relatively linear: after an insidious debut against Alexander Blockx, the German took advantage of a favorable draw until the semi-final, won against Fery, which gave him the first final of his career on London grass.
The precedents between Sinner and Zverev
The balance of the direct clashes between the two is clearly in favor of the blue: 14 precedents, with Sinner ahead 10-4. The most significant data, however, concerns the last nine matches, all won by the world number 1, and in the last six Zverev hasn’t even managed to take a set from him.
All four of the last precedents came in 2026, between semi-finals (Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo) and the final in Madrid, won by Sinner in less than an hour of play with a double 6-1, 6-2. A dominance that on paper would leave little doubt about the outcome of the challenge.
However, there are several variables that make this final different from the previous ones. First of all, it is the first ever confrontation between the two on grass, a surface on which Zverev had never achieved great results before this year. Secondly, the German arrives at Wimbledon without the psychological weight of his first Slam title, having already put that thought aside at Roland Garros a month ago: a victory which, according to him, has given him important confidence also in view of this tournament. Zverev also underlined that today he feels like the only opponent truly capable of competing with Sinner, also thanks to Alcaraz’s absence from the circuit.
For Sinner, however, it is the first Slam final of the 2026 season: therefore a new context for him too, after a year so far dominated in the Masters 1000 tournaments but without yet a title of the four Grand Slam tournaments under his belt.
