A new food alert concerns an organic product widely consumed as a snack or breakfast ingredient. The Alì and Esselunga supermarkets have reported the recall, ordered by the manufacturer, of a batch of organic dried figs due to the presence of ochratoxin A in quantities exceeding the legal limits.
The recall affects a very specific product, so it is important to check any packages purchased and verify the data shown on the label.
The recalled product
In detail, these are Noberasco organic dried figs sold in 200 gram packs. The product affected by the recall can be identified through batch L6075A and the shelf life (TMC) 31/03/2027.
The dried figs were produced by Noberasco Spa in the factory located in Paletta 1, in Carcare, in the province of Savona.
What is ochratoxin A and why is it a concern
Ochratoxin A is a mycotoxin, which is a toxic substance naturally produced by some species of microscopic fungi. It can develop especially in certain temperature and humidity conditions and contaminate various categories of food.
Its presence is monitored with particular attention precisely because, in the case of prolonged exposure or at high levels, it can represent a health risk. For this reason the legislation establishes maximum limits of presence in foods and products that exceed these values cannot be marketed.
In the case of the recalled dried figs, exceeding the legal limits led the company to adopt the recall measure as a precaution.
What consumers should do
Anyone who has purchased Noberasco organic dried figs should carefully check the packaging. If the product contains the reported batch, it is best not to consume it.
In fact, the company invites consumers who may have the recalled product to return it to the point of sale for a refund or replacement.
