In the images everything is already in place: blue water, clean edges, a ladder and no leaves out of place. The modular pool that appeared on Amazon looks like one of those tubs overlooking the rooms of a resort, with the difference that it should go directly to your home.
The advert presents it as a modular structure made from old containers, suitable for being placed above ground or integrated into a platform. The displayed price is 11,856.32 euros: an important figure, of course, but still very far from the costs that the construction of a custom-made in-ground swimming pool can reach.
It seems ready, but watch out for the garden
A prefabricated swimming pool is built in a factory and transported almost complete to the installation site. This shortens the time spent building the tub directly in the garden and reduces some on-site work. The decisive word, however, remains “some”.
First there must be a solid, flat surface capable of supporting the weight of the full structure. The truck must arrive and, depending on the model and access to the property, also a crane to deposit it at the established point. This is followed by the electrical and plumbing connections, the drainage system, the soil drainage and the possible construction of steps, edges or platforms.
Before purchasing, it is therefore advisable to check with the seller what is included in the indicated amount: transport, pump, filtration system, lights, ladder, electrical panel, assistance and warranty. The same goes for terraces, roofs and sloping terrain, often shown as possible destinations for modular swimming pools. In these cases, a structural assessment is needed.
Prefabricated does not mean without permits
The advantage of the modular structure concerns production and installation. It doesn’t necessarily turn the pool into a seasonal object to place next to the deckchairs.
Excavations, foundations, dimensions, permanence of the installation and works built around the tank may require a building practice. Municipal regulations and the presence of landscape or urban planning constraints also count. The same rulings published by the Administrative Justice show that prefabricated swimming pools are evaluated on the basis of the works actually carried out and the stable relationship with the property.
Before clicking on “Buy”, therefore, it is prudent to show the technical data sheet and project to a professional and ask for information at the Municipality’s one-stop shop for construction. It would be unfortunate to discover that the real missing accessory was the permit.
The container does not automatically make the pool sustainable
The industrial aspect may make you think of the recovery of an old naval container. From the advertisement alone, however, it is not possible to establish whether the structure really uses a decommissioned module, which materials were used or what the impact of production and long transport is.
Even a prefabricated swimming pool continues to require water, filtration, cleaning and possibly heating. Faster construction does not erase consumption during use.
A suitable cover is among the least spectacular and most useful elements.
